Using EMCLI (Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface)

I received an email on a distribution list I’m on from someone that was looking at scripting a bunch of stuff that can be done via the Enterprise Manager 12c user interface. The writer had looked at the Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface (EMCLI) documentation, and was asking for additional materials, blogs etc. that might […]

ADDM Compare in EM12c

I’m often present to overhear comments like the following when issues arise:

  • I *think* someone changed something.
  • I bet some DBA changed a parameter!
  • I know is running that process I told him/her not to!

Making assumptions vs. having data is a good way to alienate peers, coworkers and customers.

We’re going to continue onto Session Identifiers in the ASH Analytics Activity view.  You can use the links to view Part I and Part II to catch u

Proper Resync of an Agent

When an agent reports that it’s blocked and needs to be resync’d, most DBAs are going to log into the Enterprise Manager 12c console and attempt a resynchronization to have it fail.  A resync isn’t required very often, but if you do run into “Agent Blocked”, here are the initial steps that should be performed to have a resync complete successfully.

EM Hits a Million!

If you ever get to wondering about whether Enterprise Manager 12c can scale, have a look at this: 1 million, 42 thousand and 64 targets – that’s a not inconsiderable number in anyone’s terms! In case you’re wondering, there are 754 Apps instances in here.  EM is running on 1/4 x3-2 rac, + a […]

Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 2 Installation…

I did an EM Cloud Control 12cR2 installation at work yesterday. The database repository was on HP-UX and the middle tier was installed on RHEL 5.8. The installation was pretty much the same as the 12cR1 version. Over the next few days I’ll be testing out some of the features to decide if we can move across to it permanently.

Today I did two run throughs of single server installations on Oracle Linux 5.8 and 6.3. There are a couple of minor differences, but nothing to worry about. You can see what I did here:

The installations are a little small, so they are not too fast, but it’s good enough to test things out.

Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 2…

Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 2 was released a couple of days ago for all the major platforms. That in itself is not news any more, but the fact we are going to trial it at work as a replacement for our 11g Grid Control installation is.

It’s in my low priority task list, so I’m not sure I’ll get it all sorted before OOW12, but it is something to look forward too. I know it’s tragic, but I’m quite excited. :)

First Impressions of EM12C

One of the major announcements at Oracle Open World last week was the launch of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, though I’m going to refer to the product as em for the rest of this blog. EM is a product that I both love and which completely infuriates me from time to time. Its worth understanding [...]

Not So Smart

It’s been a few months since I did an install of Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g. I am however talking about some experiences from a real world implementation that I performed a while back at the UKOUG’s Management and Infrastructure SIG on the 27th. (you can book for this event here ) I thought therefore that [...]
