Oak Table World 2017 at Oracle Open World!

Going to Oracle Open World?  Don't miss out on the best of the best that's not at the main event... :)

The Oak Table members will be discussing their latest technical obsessions and research on Monday and Tuesday, (Oct. 2nd and 3rd, 2017).  The truth is, folks-  The Oak Table experts are an AWESOME group, (if I don’t say so myself! :)) as we could have easily done another day of incredible sessions, but alas, two days is all we have available for this year’s event.

Oak Table World, Collaborate 2017 Edition!

We weren't sure we'd get Oak Table World for Collaborate going, but Bryn made sure that it happened, (better thank him when you see him!)   We'll be in the South Seas C Ballroom all day Wednesday, so come learn database knowledge that everyone else is too frightened to talk about!

Submit your business card in the bowl at the front door and get a chance to win an AWESOME Nintendo NES Classic System with 30 games!

Write cache with open file handles?

I have a doubt about RAC.

I was trying recovery of OCR and voting disk. This is what I did:

-- created a diskgroup OCRVD with external redundancy and 5 disks
-- Moved OCR and voting file to the diskgroup OCRVD
-- Corrupted all the disks in the diskgroup using dd command. I was expecting c/ware to come down as all the voting disks are inaccessible. But the c/ware continued as earlier. C/ware alert log, OCSSD log and ASm alert log did not display anything relevant.
-- I even deleted all the partitions on which ASM disks were configured but c/ware still continued.
-- As soon as I stopped ISCSI service, the alert log revealed that Voting disk was inaccessible and node rebooted .

How can these results be explained in view of the fact that for c/ware to continue, more than half the number of voting disks should be accessible.

Thanks and regards
Anju Garg

Can you Apply redo to import?

i am new to the world of dba, so i wanted to ask that is it possible to apply redo logs after a import for recovery as we do apply redo logs after restoring from backup files. i know import is kind of a logical thing and backup files are physical copy. so redo logs cant be applied on after import. what i want to know is, is there any way we can do it, if not whynot?(another reason apart from the above : ) )
